Dear friends and collaborators,

With feelings of both joy and sadness, I’m writing to let you know that I’m stepping away from my role leading Community Arts Guild, to become the new Executive Director of Scarborough Arts.

I’m excited about this opportunity to serve the larger Scarborough community and connect with more artists and residents. While I’ll miss being at the heart of Community Arts Guild’s beautiful work, I look forward to my new role leading to further collaborations between Scarborough Arts and Community Arts Guild.

As founding Artistic Director (alongside my Jumblies mentors and co-instigators) this company has been my labour of love for more than thirteen years. I’ve been privileged to make art and build community alongside East Scarborough residents, partners and artists. The experience has shaped and taught me, and I can’t express how deeply grateful I am to all the places and people: the community leaders, artists, staff, funders, colleagues and volunteers I have been honored to co-create with; the libraries, gardens, takeout places, creeks, storefronts and highrises.

Because this has always been a group effort, there’s a great team in place to care for and continue Community Arts Guild. I’m committed to supporting and mentoring throughout this transition, to ensure the company will flourish and evolve. I’m looking forward to all of us setting out on new adventures, and the amazing creativity this will unleash.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,

Beth Helmers
